Towering 700 meters above Lake Ringedalsvatnet, Trolltunga (The Troll's Tongue) offers one of Norway's most stunning photo opportunities and a hiking experience you'll never forget.
Planning Your Trip
The hiking season typically runs from June to September, with July and August offering the most stable weather. Outside these months, a guide is recommended as conditions can be challenging.
Where to Park Your Van
There are several designated parking areas at different distances from the trailhead. We recommend P2 Skjeggedal for convenience and the allowance of campervans, though it fills up quickly in peak season. Arrive early or use the shuttle service from Odda.
The Hike
Prepare for a challenging 28km round trip with an elevation gain of about 800 meters. The trail takes 10-12 hours for most hikers. Start early in the morning to ensure you return before dark.
What to Bring
- Water (minimum 3 liters)
- High-energy snacks and lunch
- Hiking boots
- Layered clothing
- Rain gear (regardless of forecast)
- First aid kit
- Headlamp
After the Hike
Return to your campervan for a well-deserved rest. The area around Odda offers several beautiful spots to park overnight. We particularly recommend Tyssedal camping, which has facilities to shower and recharge after your adventure.
The Trolltunga hike may be demanding, but standing on that iconic rock with panoramic views of Norwegian nature at its finest makes every step worth it.
